Functions Of Cigarette Filters
Nov 05, 2025
Once the function of cigarette filters evolved beyond their purely mouthpiece-like use, they became mechanical devices for reducing smoke particles, thereby decreasing the amount of tar and nicotine inhaled. The three main functions of cigarette filters include direct interception, inertial compression, and diffusion deposition, with direct interception filters being the most common. Filtration is a complex process; tar droplets separate from the smoke and then adhere to the surface of the filter material upon reaching it.
